Our Story

How It Started

Petra and Kostas Stergiou first visited Patmos as tourists some 40 years ago and instantly fell in love with the unique aura of the island. Before they knew it, they embarked on their dream to build a special place to welcome sophisticated travelers. Continuously upping their game, they joined Small Luxury Hotels of the World and turned the hotel into a modern boutique gem that emanates a blend of understated luxury and authenticity in every little corner. Through decades of hard work, they built the current myth of the_Petra: a labor of love with just 11 rooms, unpretentious exclusivity, a homey feel with mama's food, and open handed 5-star Greek hospitality.

The New Era of the_Petra

In recent years, their only son Christos Stergiou, once a youngster growing up at his family hotel, has joined in on the effort. Armed with an MBA from Stanford, Christos has become an inspirational serial entrepreneur in Greece after launching two leading businesses: decorated luxury travel company TrueTrips, and high-flying tech company Triparound. Having been recognized continuously for the last ~15 years as a Top Travel Expert globally by the likes of Conde Nast Traveler and Travel & Leisure, Christos and his team are now adding their own special touches by building on the myth that his parents have cultivated for the_Petra, remaining faithful to their unrivalled philosophy of hospitality and values.
